Our time in Indiana was really good. And really busy. It was so good to be there to help get ready for Karissa’s wedding. Wedding preparation took a lot of our time. My sister was a beautiful bride and it was fun to have all of us siblings standing with her.
Eli and Evan were the ring bearers for the wedding. They did great in the rehearsal, but Eli started having second thoughts. The night before the wedding, Eli told Karissa that he wasn’t going to do it after all. He had decided to ask his best buddy, Isaac, to do it for him. Karissa assured him that it would be really special to have her own nephew do the job. With a bit of bribing, he was convinced. (We pieced everything together later when we heard about Eli’s earlier conversation with Grandma. Isaac was in his uncle’s wedding and Grandma had encouraged Eli to ask him about it. Apparently, Eli took that as asking him about doing it again in Eli’s place at this wedding.)
And though I’ve always wondered what the big deal is about little boys in tuxedos, I soon found out. My boys were awesome. I was so proud when they walked down the aisle carrying their pillows. As has become their pattern, Eli was Big Brother Leader. Evan slowed when he saw the multitudes looking at him. So he just scooted over closer to Big Brother Leader and leaned his head on his shoulder until they reached the safety of Mom and Aunt and Uncle at the front of the church. After Daddy did a Scripture reading Little Ring Bearers went and sat down with him. When Preacher asked for the rings, Littlest Ring Bearer was tired of doing what everyone was telling him to do. Both boys had announced ahead of time that they each wanted to give their pillow to Bride. That was fine, but as Evan reluctantly made his way back onto the stage, someone whispered encouragingly, “Give it to Rylan.” That was the last straw. If you weren’t sitting too far back, you could hear a frustrated, high-pitched little voice stating his opinion on the matter as he angrily shoved his pillow at Bride.
In spite of second thoughts and bribes and some anger, our little guys did a great job. We were so proud of them.
